UPDATE 1-Putin says Britain's May tough on Skripal poisoning caseRussian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday he wanted to improve ties with Britain after they were strained by the poisoning of a former Russian spy on British soil, but said Prime Minister Theresa May was taking a tough line on the issue. Putin met May at the G20 summit in Osaka on Friday. May's office said she asked Moscow to hand over the Russian suspects Britain blames for poisoning a former double agent and his daughter with a nerve agent in Salisbury, England last year.

The new and improved Gay Street sign is all over NYC Pride Twitter

The new and improved Gay Street sign is all over NYC Pride TwitterThis year the New York City Pride March marks 50 years since the Stonewall Riot, and the parade is  bigger and more colorful than ever. As the march makes its way to Greenwich Village, one street sign in particular is popping up on social media as a symbol of 2019's much-needed focus on inclusion in the queer community. It's pure coincidence that Gay Street intersects with Christopher Street right near the Stonewall Inn -- the "Gay" of Gay Street is a family name -- but its location on the parade route makes it prime real estate for a statement on what pride means in 2019. Take a look:> The famous Gay Street sign, representing a wide spectrum of gender expression. Enjoy PrideNYC today!!!! pic.twitter.com/FKpz1tEXQx> > -- Craig Anderson (@canderson1989) June 30, 2019The temporary changes to the Gay Street sign were part of an "Acceptance Matters" campaign by MasterCard, which raises questions about the place of corporations in New York's Pride Month celebrations. This particular installation seems to be popular on social media, however, for its reminder that every element of the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to feel proud of their identity.  WATCH: 'History repeats itself': LGBTQ elders discuss how Stonewall impacted their organizing during the AIDS crisis

Biden scrambles after slipping in Democrats' debate

Biden scrambles after slipping in Democrats' debateA wounded Joe Biden scrambled to defend his frontrunner status Friday after getting pummeled over his record on race relations at a Democratic election debate, throwing the battle for the party's nomination to challenge President Donald Trump wide open. Watching from Japan, where he was attending the G20 summit, Trump licked his chops as the 10 Democrats at the Thursday night debate in Miami veered sharply to the left on immigration, health care, taxes and the ever-emotional subject of gun ownership. Biden, vice president under still highly popular ex-president Barack Obama, came in as the favorite, polling well ahead of Trump and all Democratic rivals.

Trump: If There Was a Wall, Immigrant Dad and Daughter Who Drowned ‘Would Be Saved’

Trump: If There Was a Wall, Immigrant Dad and Daughter Who Drowned ‘Would Be Saved’Kevin Lamarque/ReutersPresident Donald Trump said that if the wall along the southern border with Mexico had been built, the migrant dad and daughter who drowned this week “would be saved.”Speaking at a press conference in Osaka, Japan, where world leaders are gathered at the G20 summit, Trump took a moment to offer his take on the global shock in response to the photo of Salvadorian man Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez and his daughter, Valeria, who were found face down and clinging to each other in the Rio Grande river. The two were attempting to make it across the river after failing to gain asylum from U.S. authorities.“The father and the beautiful daughter who drowned... if they thought it was hard to get in, they wouldn’t be coming up,” Trump said.Trump then called for tougher border patrol policies, adding that illegal immigration is “very unfair.”“You have millions of people on line for years to get into a country. They take tests, they study... and these people have worked hard, they’ve been on line for seven, eight, nine years, then someone walks in. Honestly it’s very unfair,” he said.Trump’s comments came hours after a U.S. judge’s ruling that blocks his administration from using $2.5 billion in funds intended to be used for anti-drug activities to instead build a wall along the border with Mexico. Trump said that he is planning to immediately appeal the ruling. In February, the Trump administration declared a national emergency to use $6.7 billion in funds that Congress had allocated for other purposes to instead be used for constructing the wall. U.S. District Court Judge Haywood Gilliam in Oakland, California said in a pair of court decisions Friday that the Trump administration’s proposal to transfer the funds was unlawful.“We think we’ll win the appeal,” Trump said during another press conference at the G20 summit. “There was no reason that that should’ve happened.”Read more at The Daily Beast.Got a tip? Stormzy at Glastonbury 2019 review – a glorious victory lap for black British culture

Pyramid Stage
Not only is this headline performance a show of supreme talent, it also underlines how Stormzy’s talent and charisma has pushed forward UK rap

The notion of Stormzy headlining the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury is an intriguing one. On the one hand, an artist who’s only released one album being elevated to such a rarefied status – up there with Jay-Z, Paul McCartney, U2 and the Rolling Stones – seems unprecedented. On the other, a persistent rumour around the site suggests that Stormzy’s show cost more to stage than any other in the festival’s history. That may or may not represent one of the histrionic myths that annually circulates around Worthy Farm – festival-goers with long enough memories to remember Glastonbury before the arrival of the internet and its fact-checking powers may recall the story that used to go around in the 90s that Cliff Richard had unexpectedly died. But watching Stormzy perform, you can believe it. His set opens with the kind of pyrotechnics that most acts would use to triumphantly conclude their performance and it doesn’t really let up from that point on.

2020 Election Meddling by China, Iran, N. SCOTUS Won’t Revive Alabama Law Banning Dismemberment Abortion

SCOTUS Won’t Revive Alabama Law Banning Dismemberment AbortionThe Supreme Court declined Friday to revive an Alabama law that would ban dismemberment abortions. The state was forced to appeal to the High Court after a lower court ruled that its 2016 Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act, which bans so-called “dilation and evacuation” abortions, violated the precedent established by Planned Parenthood v. Casey in placing an "undue burden" on abortion access.Justice Clarence Thomas was the only justice to comment on the Friday decision. In his concurring opinion, Thomas agreed that the law should not be revived on procedural grounds, but lambasted the legal "aberration" that constrained the court.“The more developed the child, the more likely an abortion will involve dismembering it,” Thomas said. “The notion that anything in the Constitution prevents States from passing laws prohibiting the dismembering of a living child is implausible. But under the ‘undue burden’ standard adopted by this court, a restriction on abortion — even one limited to prohibiting gruesome methods — is unconstitutional if ‘the purpose or effect of the provision is to place a substantial obstacle in the path of a woman seeking an abortion before the fetus attains viability.’”“This case serves as a stark reminder that our abortion jurisprudence has spiraled out of control,” he added. The declination comes after a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit ruled in August that dismemberment abortions, which are the most popular form of second-trimester abortion, cannot be prohibited because there are no alternatives that would not present an “unsurmountable obstacle” to women.Writing for the panel, Chief Judge Ed Carnes, like Thomas, held that he and his colleagues were bound by what amounts to an “aberration” in constitutional law.“Some Supreme Court Justices have been of the view that there is constitutional law and then there is the aberration of constitutional law relating to abortion,” Carnes wrote, referring to previous dissents from Thomas and the late Justice Antonin Scalia. “If so, what we must apply here is the aberration.”

AOC says three Democratic candidates stood out during 'breakaway' night of debates

AOC says three Democratic candidates stood out during 'breakaway' night of debatesAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez said there were three presidential candidates who stood out during the first Democratic debate \- but that she isn't ready to endorse one just yet. Appearing on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Wednesday, the youngest-ever congresswoman said: “I really do think this was a breakaway night. “I think Elizabeth Warren really distinguished herself. I think Julian Castro really distinguished himself. I think Cory Booker did a great job in talking about criminal justice.” Ms Ocasio-Cortez also expressed her approval of the spotlight candidates put on the transgender community and the immigrant community, calling it an “extraordinary moment”. The congresswoman was also impressed and slightly amused by the decision of some of the candidates to respond to questions in Spanish, telling Colbert she “loved” that there was a lot of Spanglish in the building, but thought it was “humorous at times” as she felt the candidates used the language as a diversion tactic to avoid answering questions. “But it was good. I thought it was a good gesture to the fact that we are a diverse country,” she added. However, the New York congresswoman was less impressed with some of the lesser-known candidates, such as Tim Ryan and John Delaney. When asked about the underdogs of the debate, and whether she could “pick them out in a line up if you had to,” Ms Ocasio-Cortez paused before responding: “You know, sometimes you’re an underdog until you’re not. So, you know, there’s always a chance.”But despite praising three of the candidates, the 29-year-old said she has not endorsed anyone yet. In response to Colbert’s question of whether she was prepared to do so following the first debate, the congresswoman laughed while saying: “No, absolutely not.”

Supreme Court declines Alabama bid to revive abortion restriction

Supreme Court declines Alabama bid to revive abortion restrictionThe U.S. Supreme Court on Friday sidestepped a major new challenge to abortion rights by declining to hear Alabama's bid to revive a Republican-backed state law that would have effectively banned the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The justices left in place a lower court ruling that struck down the 2016 law, which would have criminalized a method called dilation and evacuation that is the most common type of abortion performed during the second trimester of a pregnancy. The law in question is different than an even more strict Alabama measure signed by Republican Governor Kay Ivey in May. The new law, also facing a legal challenge, would ban nearly all abortions in the state, even in cases of rape and incest.

Boeing said the software fix for the 737 MAX that it has been developing for the last eight months does not currently address the matter.

Real, Unrestored, And Rare 1967 Ford Mustang GTA

Real, Unrestored, And Rare 1967 Ford Mustang GTAIt’s a one-of-one optioned vehicle to boot. You read that right. This is a one-of-one 1967 Ford Mustang GTA convertible with the Marti report to back it up. It’s a super rare find and is currently for sale through Shelton Classics in North Carolina for $34,995. Although most of the first-gen Mustangs featured most of the same design elements, each year received some slight upgrades. The 1967 model is undoubtedly the first year that these changes really became apparent and made the muscle car look even meaner. This rare 1967 Mustang convertible is a factory GTA Fastback with a one-of-one options list. To put it simply, there is no other Mustang GTA ‘vert produced with the same colors or options as this car. It also doesn’t hurt that this beauty has a stunning Candy Apple Red exterior paint job. It’s quite shocking to say that this Mustang has never been restored. It has, however, received a shiny repainting and new convertible top thanks to the natural aging process. Though, other than that, this GTA is larely in original condition. There’s just a completely different feeling behind the wheel of an original, untouched car than that of a resto one. Sometimes it’s better to be maintained than battered and brought to life. The exterior of this ’67 Mustang is clean and straight, with no obvious damage or questionable repairs. All of the sheet metal appears to be original as well, which eliminates the uncertainty of any poorly performed bodywork. It’s quite difficult to find a Ford Mustang that is this solid with all the original metal in place, especially a convertible that still has its original floorpans. You’re going to want to take the top off this beauty and show off that stunning red vinyl cabin. The cockpit appears to be all original, apart from the replacement carpet. The bucket seats, along with the rest of the interior, are in excellent condition – especially for an unrestored model. This 1967 Mustang GTA still contains what is believed to be all of its original drivetrain, including Ford’s high-performance 289 cubic-inch V8 engine mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. For those who were wondering, that’s where the “A” in GTA comes from. The car runs just as it should without any smoke, hesitation, or unwelcoming noises. If you take into account its overall originality in conjunction with the impressive Marti report, this Mustang GTA is a valuable collector’s item. Turn the key and you’ll see just how incredible this unmodified Stang really is. Add it to your garage today!
